Technology Centre AVCR organised round table with Rick Tumlinson, one of the current key space visionaires. The event took place on 5th May 2016 in TA AVCR. Invited representatives of the Czech industry, government and academia discussed the business approaches in space research, technologies and opportunities for co-operation between the Czech and American companies in space private programs. EPCI was among the invited guests and used the opportunity to discuss the private space companies policy for use of components and technologies.
The round table was organised as the co-event to the Czech Festival of Innovation (ČINFEST), that invited Rick Tumlinson as a special guest.
„Space can become the most important area of the New Age business. Czech companies and researches have a high chance to pick up the challenge. We are talking about the development of suitable technologies, manufacturing but also software.” said Rick Tumlinson
EPCI president Tomas Zednicek, that was invited to the round table discussion, used this opportunity to ask Rick about the private space component / HW infrastructure policy and links to the existing space agencies (NASA/ESA) defined rules – specification/qualification/guidelines. The discussion was a very useful input to the EPCI co-operation with space industry. *
Rick Tumlinson is a founder of a number of companies in space research and technology fields (Space X, Deep Space Industry etc.). He is very active in establishment of NewSpace industry policies and rules for example founding of International Space University. His scope of projects is very wide, Silicon Valley company Deep Space Industries (DSI), established in 2013, is focused on technology development for asteroid ore harvesting. One of the round table partner, Czech company Metatron Global, a.s., is one of the DSI investors. The main organiser – technology agency AVCR is also national ESA broker contact point for transfer of space technologies between ESA and the Czech companies.
* EPCI is preparing key note presentation for the table top discussion on the space use of commercial versus COTS+ versus qualified passive components during the next ESA SPCD conference in ESTEC, Netherland in October 2016. see the event link here.
