SUMMARY:Winding Loss Modeling for Toroidal Magnetics - Including Gapped Cores
DESCRIPTION:Frenetic Webinar: Winding Loss Modeling for Toroidal Magnetics – Including Gapped Cores\nWednesday\, May 13\, 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM CET \nToroidal magnetics are widely used in power electronics thanks to their compact geometry and low stray fields. However\, accurately predicting winding losses becomes significantly more difficult when introducing air gaps\, non-uniform windings\, or arbitrary layouts. \nIn this webinar\, Jonas Mühlethaler will present a practical winding-loss modeling approach recently introduced at APEC 2026. The method extends the well-known mirroring technique to handle gapped toroids and complex winding arrangements\, scenarios where traditional 1D or uniform-winding models are no longer sufficient. \nThe session will explore how this approach can achieve FEM-level accuracy (within approximately 6%) without the computational burden of running full FEM simulations. \nTopics covered include: \n\nModeling winding losses in gapped toroids\nCommon Mode Chokes (CMCs) and toroidal transformers\nArbitrary winding layouts\nExtensions to the classic mirroring method\nAccuracy comparison versus FEM simulations\nPractical implications for high-frequency magnetic design\n\nThis webinar is especially relevant for engineers working on high-frequency magnetics\, power converters\, and advanced magnetic modeling workflows.
