Film capacitors are ubiquitous in industrial, green energy, and automotive applications. They are found in devices ranging from smart meters, wind and solar inverters, to electric vehicles. Film capacitors are often found in a box design, but all have a similar construction. Film capacitors are made with a plastic film layer as a dielectric. This layer may use polypropylene, polyester, PPS, or even a polymer impregnated paper. In this video we’ll unravel the mysteries of our film capacitors at KEMET.
