Alter Technologies organizes EEE components procurement training for SMEs at ESA

Source: ESA news

Costs related to EEE parts definition, procurement and acquisition as well as the intensive test requirements to be qualified for aerospace use need to be carefully accounted for and considered at early project phases. This course guided by ALTER TECHNOLOGY experts on different EEE component types, develops the theoretical knowledge about EEE components procurement and the costs associated with it and provides practical examples to highlight the importance of good cost estimations at a very early project stage.

Date and Location
13 December 2018
ESA/ESTEC (Noordwijk, NL)

Objectives
Electrical, Electromechanical and Electronic (EEE) components are key elements in every space mission. Costs related to EEE parts definition, procurement and acquisition as well as the intensive test requirements to be qualified for aerospace use (before being launched as part of a spacecraft) need to be carefully accounted for and considered at early project phases. Project success can depend on the proper execution of the previously mentioned tasks. This course develops the theoretical knowledge about EEE components procurement and the costs associated with it and provides practical examples to highlight the importance of good cost estimations at a very early project stage.

Course description
The main goal of the course is to provide attendees with a good understanding of the pitfalls associated with EEE components procurement and associated costs. The sessions will highlight the kind of impact EEE procurement can have on the initially foreseen project budget and schedule.

The following  areas will be covered in depth:

Training methods
The course will be divided into theoretical and practical sessions.
The theoretical sessions will provide the theoretical basis to be able to carry out an assessment of the different cost areas that need to be considered when working on a project.
In the practical session the trainee/(s) will be asked to identify the different cost areas that need to be taken into consideration for different given examples, fully guided by ALTER TECHNOLOGY experts on different EEE component types.

Target group
All engineers and scientists working for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) who wish to have an insight into the different costs areas that need to be considered when working on a project.  The course targets both SMEs providing flight products for major satellite programmes as well as companies working at lower TRL levels in technology programmes.

Trainer
ALTER TECHNOLOGY TÜV NORD qualified personnel
