LS Materials Unveils World’s First Integrated Superapacitor Cell Module

LS Materials announced launch of the world’s first “cell-module integrated” supercapacitor (SC) named CellDule, marking a significant advancement in energy storage technology.

CellDule represents a breakthrough in the design and manufacturing of supercapacitors. By eliminating the traditional cell packaging process and directly connecting electricity-storing components to form a module, CellDule reduces volume and weight by more than 30%.

This new design not only increases energy density but also cuts the production process by more than half, making it a highly efficient and cost-effective solution.

Supercapacitors, are renowned for their rapid charge and discharge capabilities and long lifespan. These characteristics make them ideal for a variety of high-power applications. The global SC market is expected to grow from $2.3 billion in 2020 to $8.5 billion by 2026, with an average annual growth rate projected at 25%. LS Materials anticipates that CellDule will quickly replace existing cell-type products, given its superior performance and efficiency.

Hong Young-ho, CEO of LS Materials, expressed optimism about the product’s market potential. “We are in discussions with customers to apply it to auxiliary power batteries for automobiles,” he stated. “We plan to expand the market focusing on robots, wind turbine generators, UPS (uninterruptible power supply), and energy storage systems (ESS).”

The development of CellDule is a response to the growing demand for efficient energy storage solutions across various industries. Traditional battery manufacturing involves creating individual cells, which are then assembled into modules and further into packs. This multi-step process adds to the volume, weight, and cost of the final product. CellDule’s innovative design streamlines this process, offering a more compact and efficient energy storage solution.

LS Materials is strategically positioning itself to capitalize on the rapid growth of the global SC market. By focusing on applications such as auxiliary power batteries for automobiles, robots, wind turbine generators, UPS systems, and energy storage systems, the company aims to expand its market presence and drive the adoption of its cutting-edge technology.
