The webinar lectured by Würth Elektronik experts shows in a holistic concept the challenges that arise, when implementing an RF filter in modern signal interfaces. High signal data rates, different grounding concepts, boundary conditions of the housing, filter insertion loss, transient protection and also the use of modern components are considered.
The effectiveness of filters under realistic impedance conditions, via the coupling antenna (= peripheral cable) – antenna, compared to the 50Ohm system is shown. Filter topologies are compared, their effect in the system when using different inductors is shown. The influence of filter design and antenna impedance, i.e. the “peripheral cable”, are thus clearly understood.
From a short and simple signal analysis, interference spectrum and filter corner frequency can be determined. Decisive for the required function of a filter are the topology adapted to the system, components suitable for the frequency range and an RF-compatible design including layout. This is followed by selection of the suitable inductance with adapted curve, and, if necessary, additional transient protection. Associated components are briefly discussed.
