In a switching power supply, the output capacitors are typically selected based on output voltage ripple and transient response requirements. However, they also play an important role in the feedback control loop of the converter, as parameters like their capacitance and ESR help to shape the frequency response of the power stage and in turn, contribute to set the stability margins of the control system. In this webinar, the influence of these parameters and their variations on the control loop stability of a voltage-mode buck converter is analyzed, supported by experimental results on a real DC-DC converter prototype.
