Electronics manufacturer Murata Manufacturing Co Ltd will temporarily close the Echizen plant, Fukui Prefecture in Japan after workers tested positive for Covid-19, according to Nikkei Asia news.
According to a company spokesperson on Thursday, 98 of Murata’s 7’000 workers have tested positive for the corona virus. Murata has made the decision to keep the plant closed until August 31. Any further decisions will be made next week, depending on the infection results.
The Echizen Fukui plant produces multilayer ceramic capacitors, in which the company is believed to control 40% of the global market. Murata says it will rely on inventories to meet customer demand and, if necessary, use other plants in Japan and overseas to make up for the production shortfall.
