Capacitor manufacturers continued to see improved bookings and sales in Q1 CY’17 in North America. Sales for the first quarter of 2017 totaled 34.8 billion units, worth $322M. Sales were up 6.5% in units and up 0.5% in dollars and bookings were up 7.5% in units and 6.6% in dollars.
Capacitor manufacturers shipped 52% of the product into the OEM \ EMS channel and 48% of the product shipped into the distributor channel in the quarter. Book to bill for the Q1 CY’17 quarter was 1.18 compared to 1.11 for Q4 CY’16. The largest product category for capacitor sales was ceramics at 55% followed by aluminum at 18%, tantalum at 16%, paper and film at 9% and supercapacitors at 2%.
