DATAPOINT OF THE WEEK: China Auto retail sales showed continuing improvement in Sep with total passenger sales of 2.06 million, an 8% increase M/M and 2% on a Y/Y basis, which compares to Y/Y decline over the past 5 months.
NEV sales in September totaled 1.12 million units according to China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data, reflecting a 9% M/M and 50% Y/Y increase, which compares to a yearly increase of 30-40% in the prior 5 months. NEV penetration in September inched up to 54.4% compared to 53.9% in Aug and 51% in July.
As of September 25, more than 1.13 million applications had been filed regarding replacement subsidies for old vehicles, the report noted. The sharp increase in replacement subsidy filings in recent months reflects the policy’s boost to boost auto consumption, the CPCA said.
