Stackpole Introduces Automotive Thick Film Wide Termination Chip Resistors

Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has unveiled its latest RMWA series of thick film chip resistors, meticulously engineered to deliver exceptional power handling, thermal performance, and long-term reliability in a compact surface-mount format.

This resistor series boasts wide, long-side terminations, which significantly enhance heat dissipation and improve mechanical robustness compared to standard termination designs. This innovative configuration effectively reduces hot spots and minimizes board stress and cracking, particularly in larger case sizes like 1210 and 2512.

The resistors are rigorously tested and certified as AEC-Q200, ensuring consistent performance under the demanding conditions encountered in automotive and high-reliability applications.

Additionally, their anti-sulphur construction safeguards against sulphur contamination in harsh industrial and environmental conditions, making them suitable for use in power management, lighting controls, engine control units, and communication infrastructure equipment.

The RMWA series offers a wide range of resistance values, spanning from a few ohms to several megaohms, with tolerances as tight as ±1%. This extensive range of options caters to diverse circuit design requirements. Notably, the devices exhibit remarkable stability under load, temperature, and humidity stress, maintaining resistance integrity over extended operating lifetimes.

Unlike conventional thick film resistors of equivalent size, the RMWA series is rated for higher power densities.

This allows designers to achieve compact layouts without compromising performance. Furthermore, their wide termination structure contributes to enhanced solder joint reliability during thermal cycling, a crucial feature for applications exposed to repeated temperature fluctuations.

The RMWA series represents a dependable and cost-effective solution for designers seeking to enhance circuit durability and thermal efficiency in automotive, industrial, and communication systems.
