Würth Elektronik ICS has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in MRS Holding, the parent company of MRS Electronic.
The transaction brings together two long-standing partners and further strengthens their position in vehicle electronics and intelligent systems for mobile machinery and commercial vehicles. Customers will benefit from a broader and more integrated portfolio of control, connectivity, and power distribution solutions.
As part of the agreement, the headquarters of MRS Electronic in Rottweil with around 250 employees, as well as sites in Croatia, Poland, and Turkey, will become part of Würth Elektronik ICS. MRS Electronic will join the Würth Group but continue to operate as an independent company within the Würth Elektronik ICS Group. Completion of the acquisition remains subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.
From Technology Partnership to Ownership
Würth Elektronik ICS develops intelligent systems and components for signal and power distribution, function control, and display and operating solutions, and is one of the leading European suppliers for power distribution in mobile machinery. MRS Electronic has more than 25 years of experience in electronic control, communication and connected solutions for vehicle systems, offering compact controllers, relays, gateways, HMI displays and test systems for power semiconductors.
Both companies have maintained a close supplier and development partnership for more than 15 years. Controllers from MRS Electronic are already used as integral components in ICS central electrical units and power box solutions, enabling intelligent control of loads and seamless integration into CAN-based on-board network architectures in commercial vehicles and mobile machines. The acquisition is therefore positioned as a logical, strategic next step in a long-standing collaboration.
Strategic Rationale and Customer Benefits
With the acquisition of MRS Electronic, Würth Elektronik ICS is expanding its portfolio with additional products, technologies and development expertise in control, communication and connectivity for electronic vehicle systems. This move is intended to address increasing market requirements in areas such as cybersecurity, ISOBUS, functional safety and modern processor platforms more effectively and with shorter innovation cycles.
Customers in mobile machinery and commercial vehicle markets can expect extended system competence and tighter hardware–software integration for complex, connected and software-driven functions. According to Würth Elektronik ICS management, the combined teams will be able to support customers even more comprehensively in the realization of demanding projects in vehicle electronics.
Leveraging Global Sales and Market Access
MRS Electronic will benefit from the international footprint, strong market presence and established customer base of Würth Elektronik ICS. The global sales structures and positioning of Würth Elektronik ICS in mobile machinery and commercial vehicle markets will help MRS Electronic scale its existing solutions faster and roll out new technologies to a broader audience.
The closer cooperation will also enable MRS Electronic to integrate its own products into more extensive system solutions, opening up additional applications and market segments. Management at MRS Electronic sees the merger as a way to further develop its technologies in a more targeted manner and to strengthen its international presence as part of a strong corporate group.
