NICHICON Releases Long Life High Ripple Current Snap-In Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

3.12.2024
Reading Time: 2 mins read
A A

NICHICON CORPORATION has developed and launched the LGA Series of high ripple current snap-in terminal type aluminum electrolytic capacitors with long life to meet the high ripple current requirements of the automotive on-board charger (OBC) market, which is essential for the EV and PHEV industries.

Overview and Development Background

The use of EVs is increasing as progress is made in measures to address environmental issues and the establishment of local environmental infrastructure. The OBC on-board charger units installed in EVs are becoming smaller, and this is driving demand for high-density component mounting.

For this reason, power devices are adopting SiC and GaN semiconductors, and aluminum electrolytic capacitors are required to handle high ripple currents. NICHICON has developed and launched the LGA series, which is guaranteed for 5,000 hours at 105°C, to meet the needs of this market.

In addition to its application for on-board chargers, the LGA series can be used in applications requiring high ripple current such as industrial equipment.

Features

Based on technology that NICHICON has developed the LGA series to handle high temperatures by using a high-reliability electrolyte and electrode foil that offer stable durability even under high ripple current conditions. The LGA series has better high ripple current tolerance and longer life than the LGW series and better high ripple current tolerance than the LGX series. As a result, the LGA series achieves the highest level for rated ripple current per unit of volume and long life.
