TDK has expanded its MLJ1608-G multilayer inductor family with MLJ1608WGC1R2MTD25 for automotive power-over-coax (PoC) filters.
The SMD chip inductor addition targets the high-frequency filtering requirements of automotive camera links, where power and data share a coaxial cable. TDK reports that mass production began in October 2026.
Technical highlights
- Multilayer construction in the MLJ1608-G family, identified as MLJ-G in the series specification sheet.
- Metric 1608 package with nominal dimensions of 1.6 × 0.8 × 0.8 mm, ordered as length × width × thickness.
- A new inductance option alongside the existing MLJ1608WGCR56NTD25 component.
- Automotive PoC positioning, with the MLJ1608-G family assigned to the high-frequency portion of TDK’s filter solution range.
TDK characterises the new component as providing high impedance from 300 MHz to 2 GHz, with 1.7–2 times the impedance of conventional components between 100 MHz and 700 MHz. These are announcement-level performance claims: the public specification sheet retrieved during the source review contains frequency curves for the existing component, not the new part.

Application fit and design-in
In a power-over-coax filter, the inductor sits in the power-supply branch to prevent broadband signal energy from entering that branch. A DC-blocking capacitor serves the signal branch. Selection must match the communication interface and its power requirements, rather than nominal inductance alone.
Automotive camera PoC circuits are the explicit target for the new part. The announcement’s 350 mA rating at +105 °C and 200 mA rating at +125 °C provide initial current-selection limits, while the stated high-frequency impedance coverage addresses signal isolation in the power branch. Neither establishes suitability for a complete camera link without the updated part-specific curves and rating conditions.
The existing MLJ1608-G specification sheet also names automotive cameras and driver-monitoring systems. Its −55 °C to +125 °C operating range and temperature-specific current ratings support evaluation for those environments, but its electrical data must not be transferred to the newly announced part.
Before schematic, layout or production release:
- Obtain the new part’s delivery specifications. The retrieved sheet expressly requires these for proper and safe use and does not yet include MLJ1608WGC1R2MTD25.
- Confirm how rated current is defined. The announcement gives temperature-specific limits without identifying an inductance-drop threshold or permissible temperature rise; do not relabel these values as saturation current.
- Request new-part impedance-versus-frequency and DC-bias data. Validate the complete filter response under final operating conditions; the existing part’s curves do not establish the new part’s behaviour.
- Check DC resistance against the power-path budget and include self-heating in thermal design. The series specification sheet explicitly warns that energisation produces temperature rise.
- Resolve the dimensional discrepancy before releasing the footprint. The series drawing gives a nominal thickness of 0.8 mm with ±0.15 mm tolerance, while the online catalogue displays 0.95 mm in its height column. Use the part-specific delivery drawing for final layout.
- Confirm the new part’s land pattern and soldering requirements. The retrieved series sheet includes an outline drawing, recommended lands and a reflow profile, but predates the addition.
- Obtain qualification evidence appropriate to the project. TDK’s announcement identifies AEC-Q200 compliance, but the reviewed documents do not include a new-part qualification report or detailed test results.
