Hirose Electric has announced plans to establish a new manufacturing site in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, with partial operations scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027.

This strategic investment is aimed at strengthening the company’s automotive business in India and improving supply capacity for the Indian market and neighboring regions, where continued demand growth is expected.

Strategic Expansion into the Indian Automotive Market

India’s automotive market is forecast to maintain strong growth over the coming years, driven by economic development, vehicle electrification, and increasing local production. To respond to this trend, Hirose Electric is localizing manufacturing and support capabilities so it can respond faster to customer requirements and design cycles. Local production is expected to enhance responsiveness, shorten lead times, and provide products optimized for regional specifications and conditions.

With the new site, Hirose Electric intends to reinforce its presence among existing global automotive customers operating in India while expanding its reach to Indian OEMs and Tier suppliers. The company also sees opportunities in adjacent fields with rising demand for reliable interconnect solutions, such as industrial equipment and related mobility applications.

New Chennai Manufacturing Site Overview

The new facility, HIROSE ELECTRIC CHENNAI PRIVATE LIMITED, will serve as a key production base for automotive-grade connectors and related components destined for India and surrounding markets.

Site Parameters and Investment

  • Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India
  • Site area: 1,700 m²
  • Primary products: Automotive connectors and related products
  • Initial investment: Approximately 1 billion yen
  • Production start: Partial production targeted for summer 2027

Strengthening Local Production and Employment

With the launch of the new factory, Hirose Electric plans to hire approximately 100 local production workers, creating new employment opportunities in the Chennai region. Building a local team is central to the company’s strategy of combining global quality standards with regional expertise and agility.

The plant will operate as a key node in Hirose Electric’s global manufacturing network, emphasizing high quality, productivity, and robust process control. This setup is intended to ensure that automotive connectors and related products manufactured in India meet the stringent performance and reliability requirements of global automotive customers.

Enhanced Global Supply Network and Market Responsiveness

The establishment of the Chennai manufacturing site will further strengthen Hirose Electric’s global manufacturing network, improving redundancy and supply security for customers. By producing closer to key vehicle production hubs, the company aims to reduce logistics risk, optimize lead times, and respond more flexibly to demand fluctuations in India and neighboring regions.

Hirose Electric expects this investment to accelerate its global expansion, leveraging the Indian facility as a platform to deepen collaboration with automotive customers and to support future growth in adjacent markets. The plant’s role as a specialized automotive connector base will also help align production with evolving requirements such as vehicle electrification, connectivity, and advanced driver assistance systems.
