ELNA Acquires Japan Aomori Factory to Meet Demand for Polymer Hybrid Aluminum Capacitors

ELNA CO., LTD., a subsidiary of TAIYO YUDEN CO., LTD., has acquired a factory in Hirosaki-city, Aomori Prefecture, Japan from TENMA CORPORATION aiming to meet the increasing demand for conductive polymer hybrid aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

This is ELNA’s third production base in Japan, following the Shirakawa Factory (Nishishirakawa-gun, Fukushima Prefecture) and the Aomori Factory (Kuroishi-city, Aomori Prefecture).

The newly acquired factory will be used as the Aomori second factory to increase production of conductive polymer hybrid aluminum electrolytic capacitors that are manufactured by ELNA.

Background

ELNA is engaged in the development, manufacturing and sale of aluminum electrolytic capacitors primarily for the automotive market. Among the range of aluminum electrolytic capacitors, hybrid capacitors are characterized by their properties of both low ESR and long service life by adopting an electrolyte that combines a conductive polymer and an electrolytic solution.

For these features, hybrid capacitors are enjoying growing demand, supported by the expanding use of automotive electrical components and electronic control systems.

Against this background, TAIYO YUDEN and ELNA made a decision to acquire the Aomori second factory, based on our medium-term growth strategy. This factory will be a new production base in addition to the ELNA’s Shirakawa and Aomori Factories, representing part of our efforts to build a production structure capable of meeting further demand increases in the future.

TAIYO YUDEN and ELNA will continue to develop electronic components that can effectively support the evolution of electronics equipment and endeavor to stably supply them to customers in a timely manner.
