Bourns Extends Performance of its High Power PPTC Fuses

1.12.2025
Reading Time: 3 mins read

The greatly expanded Bourns MF-MSMF series high power PPTC fuses broadens hold current range up to 3.0 A and increases maximum voltage to 60 VDC to safeguard a wide variety of low DC voltage port designs.

Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components for power, protection, and sensing solutions, today announced that it is adding 35 part numbers to the Company’s Multifuse® MF-MSMF High Power Surface Mount Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) Resettable Fuse family.

The additional models give designers a broader selection of overcurrent and over-temperature protection design options with hold currents (Ihold) up to 3.0 A and maximum voltage (Vmax) up to 60 VDC.

Based on Bourns’ innovative freeXpansion™ design, the newly released models boost resettable fuse performance with advanced technologies that enable higher hold current, support increased voltage and provide greater resistance stability, all in a space-saving compact footprint.

Additionally, the SMD terminals are finished with Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG) plating, which improves solderability, extends shelf life and helps prevent tin whisker formation.

The protection capability advancements offered are designed to meet the increasing sensitivity of low DC voltage ports in USB, HDMI, HDTV, PC, laptop computers, data centers and portable consumer products. Bourns engineered these enhancements to its Multifuse® MF-MSMF fuses in response to growing reliability, efficiency, space limitation and uptime operational demands of these applications.

Bourns® Multifuse® Polymer PTC Resettable Fuses are recognized for their exceptional quality and reliability through key functional tests, such as 30-minute hold current, 100-cycle trip life and 48-hour trip endurance. Reliability is further reinforced through rigorous evaluations, including 1000-hour passive aging, 1000-hour humidity aging and 20-cycle thermal shock testing, minimizing the risk of field failures.

The 35 additional Bourns® Multifuse MF-MSMF Series part numbers are available now through Bourns’ authorized distribution partners and are RoHS compliant and halogen free.

These fuses have UL/CSA/TÜV recognition that meets safety criteria. The TÜV certifications encompass IEC 62319-1, IEC 60738-1, as well as IEC 60730-1:2013 clause 15, clause 17, and Annex J. These products are manufactured within a Bourns’ IATF 16949 certified facility.

  • Standard 1812 footprint
  • Fast Time-to-Trip (TTT) to protect against overcurrent events
  • Excellent solderability with ENIG terminal
  • Symmetrical designs and low profile
  • AEC-Q200 compliant (select models)
